The Basketmakers Hut is inspired by the willow grown at the bottom of the meadow, which is woven into baskets and hurdles by our own 'Underwoodsman' John. In fact John and his fellow craftsman David, built the hut, insulated it, and clad it planks of locally grown and cut waney edge larch.  For full basket immersion, you can take a course with John, just across the field.  It's a simple space, designed to maximise your connection with nature.  Comfortable, but not distracting.

Inside is a Kingsize double bed and a bench with a sink, for preparing and eating food.  The a super-cute wood burning stove, with a hot plate on top, perfect for boiling water for tea, or making a simple meal.  Outside there's a fire pit with chairs around it. There's a shared compost toilet behind and the shared flush toilets and showers at the farm about 300m away.  In the summer months you can use the outdoor shower too.

Solar panels on the roof enable power for lights and USB sockets for phone charging, as well as in summer powering a single hob induction cooker. You'll probably want to do most of your cooking on the wood stove or  firepit outside.  You can buy wood here for £10 per crate.

To keep the cost affordable, the Basketmakers Hut is self-service.  Please bring a Kingsize double undersheet, duvet cover and pillow cases.   Two pillows and a duvet are provided.  If you forget sheets and towels, don't worry you can rent a set when you arrive.

At the end of your stay, please wipe the bench sweep the floor, empty the bins, and generally make it ready for the next guests.  If any of this isn't done, we charge a flat £50 fee we either use to pay for last minute cleaning, or pass onto the next guests, if they had to do it when they arrived.   This means we can allow much more flexibility in the length of stays, and often later checkouts, and earlier check-ins.

As it’s such beautiful place people are keen to get married in the main farmhouse about 300m away, here's the upcoming wedding dates.
